Shingle Roof
Shingle Roof: honest roofing quotes for the Greater Toronto Area
We're based near Oshawa and work right across the GTA. Before we talk shingles or price, we walk the roof, tell you what's actually wrong, and write it down — no vague 'we'll figure it out once we're up there.'

Why GTA homeowners end up needing a second opinion
Most of the roofing calls we get aren't from people who never got a quote — they're from people who got three, and none of them matched. One quote is thin on detail, one is suspiciously low, one throws in scare tactics about 'catastrophic rot' with a photo that could be from any roof in Ontario. We built Shingle Roof around a simpler idea: show the homeowner the roof, in plain terms, and let the scope of work speak for itself.
Freeze-thaw doesn't care about your shingle warranty
Southern Ontario winters swing above and below zero Celsius repeatedly through January and February. That cycle drives water into any gap in flashing or underlayment, freezes, expands, and widens the gap. A roof that looked fine in October can show ice damming and interior staining by March, and it's rarely the shingle itself that failed first.
Older GTA housing stock has different problems than new builds
A lot of the roofs we're called to in the older neighbourhoods of Oshawa, Whitby, and east Toronto still have original decking or a single layer of aging asphalt over plank sheathing. Newer subdivisions have their own issue: builder-grade shingles rated for the minimum, installed fast during a build boom. Different housing stock, different failure points — we scope each one differently.
Lake-effect snow load adds up fast
Proximity to Lake Ontario means wetter, heavier snow than you'd get further inland. A roof deck that's already soft from a slow leak doesn't need a dramatic storm to fail — it just needs a normal January snowfall sitting on it for a week.
Cheap quotes hide the parts that cost money later
Ice and water shield at the eaves, proper drip edge, correct nailing pattern, ventilation that actually balances intake and exhaust — none of that shows up in a one-line 'reshingle house' quote. It shows up in the leak two winters later.

The lowest quote is almost never the full scope
When three roofing quotes for the same house come in $4,000 apart, it's not because one contractor is generous. It's because the low bidder priced fewer squares of ice and water shield, skipped the flashing replacement, or is quoting three-tab shingles against someone else's architectural laminate. On paper it looks like the same job. On the roof, it isn't.
We write down exactly what's included — and what isn't
Every Shingle Roof estimate lists the underlayment type, ice and water shield coverage at eaves and valleys, flashing scope, ventilation changes, and disposal method. If we leave something out of the price, we tell you it's out and why. You can hold our quote next to anyone else's and compare line by line instead of guessing.

We tell you when a repair is enough
If your roof doesn't need full replacement yet, we say so — even though it's the smaller invoice.
Straight timelines

How a Shingle Roof estimate actually works
Four steps, no pressure tactics, no 'today-only' pricing.
- 1
Email us your address and concern
Tell us what you're seeing — a stain, missing shingles, an insurance letter — and roughly where the property sits in the GTA.
- 2
We inspect the roof in person
We walk the roof surface and check the attic where accessible, looking at flashing, ventilation, and decking condition, not just the shingles from the ground.
- 3
You get a written, itemized quote
Materials, labour, disposal, and timeline, laid out so you can compare it against any other quote you've received.
- 4
We schedule around the weather, not around a sales quota
Roofing work in this region depends on dry conditions and temperature. We'll give you a realistic window instead of a date that ignores the forecast.
Common questions from GTA homeowners
Do you only work in Oshawa?
Oshawa is where we're based, but we quote and complete work right across the Greater Toronto Area, including Durham, York, Peel, and Halton regions and the City of Toronto.
Why did I get such different prices from different roofers?
Almost always it's scope, not just price. One quote might skip ice and water shield at the eaves, use a lighter shingle, or quote fewer flashing replacements. Ask every contractor for a line-item breakdown and compare those, not just the bottom number.
Can you work with my insurance company after storm damage?
We can document damage and provide a written scope you can hand to your adjuster. We're not a public adjuster and won't promise a claim outcome, but we'll make sure the roof-side documentation is accurate.
How do I book an inspection?
Email us with your address and what's prompting the concern. We don't take phone calls — email keeps a record of exactly what was requested and quoted.
Do you do repairs or only full replacements?
Both. If a repair genuinely solves the problem, that's what we'll quote. We only recommend full replacement when the roof's age, decking condition, or damage extent actually calls for it.
